Why Donate?
Why indeed. We offer
the comic free. It costs you nothing more
than the time it takes to link here and read it twice a week. So long
as we're willing to offer it for free, why not take advantage of it?
Besides, others will donate money, making sure the comic continues. But there's the rub. We'd like
many of our readers to be those "others". In many ways, we need it. It
costs us money every month to maintain the web site, to advertise, to
create the comic itself. Donations off-set those expenses. Generous
donations compensate the team and reward them for their skills, time
and efforts they use to bring you a story you are hopefully enjoying.
One of the best things that donations get you are the "extras"; things
that non-donors won't get.
Effecitve immediately:
Monthly Individual Bonuses
- A donation of $5 or more in one month gets you a full color Angel
of St. Thomas wallpaper.
- A donation of $10 or more in one month gets you the Angel Family
Tree bio of the month, emailed in full size, should there be one.
- A donation of $25 or more in one month gets you a high definition
page from the comic of your choice. A glossy print will be mailed to
you, as well as a CD containing the image in TIFF format.
- A donation of $50 or more gets you a drawing of Carlita by Steve
Bennett, the original to be mailed to you. PLUS a second high-def
glossy page print.
- A donation of $100 or more in one month gets you a cameo in the
Angel of St. Thomas comic. You will also be sent a glossy print of the
page, as well as a CD containing the image in TIFF format. (This is in
addition to the comic page you've already selected.)
PLEASE NOTE:
The Monthly Individual Bonuses are NOT
variables. As the comic increases in
popularity and average monthly donations rise, the individual monthly
goals will remain unchanged, barring any fine-tuning we may do. What
you will get may change, but if they do, they will be either an
improvement or an equal value change. (Pins, t-shirts, original
artwork, etc.)
Monthly Site Bonuses
Individual
donors can win more than one type of drawing per month. First donor
selected at random gets choice of prize, with second donor selected
picking from remainder, etc.
- When monthly donations reach $50 or more, a new Angel bio and
image will be added to the Angel Family Tree Page.
- When monthly donations reach $100 or more, a drawing will be held
for an original sketch of Carlita. Donors for that month get one chance
per dollar donated, no limit.
- When monthly donations reach $200 or more, Angel of St. Thomas
will go to a three times a week posting schedule - Tuesday, Thursday
and Saturday - for the following month.
- When monthly donations reach $300 or more, a drawing will be held
for a cameo appearance in Angel of St. Thomas. Donors for that month
get one chance per dollar donated, no limit.
- When monthly donations reach $500 or more, Angel of St. Thomas
will go to a four times a week posting schedule - Tuesday, Thursday and
Saturday & Sunday - for the following month.
- When monthly donations reach $500 or more, a drawing will be held
for a full page, full color original artwork by Steve Bennett. Donors
for that month get one
chance per dollar donated, no limit.
PLEASE NOTE: The Monthly Site
Bonuses ARE variables, subject
to change on the first of the month. As the comic increases in
popularity and average monthly donations rise, so will the monthly
goals and the associated perks. This means that EARLY donations will
get the site perks quicker. It also means that reaching the montly
goals early on in the life of the comic - 2008 and 2009 - will mean
those who donate will have a much better chance of winning a drawing.
Lifetime
Donation Perks
This
is a pretty new idea, one that I hope catches on. While all donoations of all sizes are
welcome; and while we gratefully acknowledge the one-time donor, we
also feel we whould provide a package of perks for the patron; that generous donor who
gives multiple times. In the past - I've been told - it was difficult
to keep track of total donations given by a single person. But with the
new features PayPal has added, we will now be able to do just that. Starting immediately - meaning
January 1, 2008 - we will be keeping
track of all donations made to AoST.
Any donation equal to or greater than one dollar will go toward that
donors annual and lifetime totals. We will be offering special annual
and lifetime perks and recognitions throughout the life of the AoST web comic, and they will be
given out as specific levels are reached, not as redeemable perks. (That
means that when you get the $1000 lifetime thank you gift, your total
stays where it's at and is not reset to zero.) Donations received in
the calendar year are counted toward both
that calendar year's
total and the donor's lifetime total.
At this point, donations
cannot be credited to other readers (meaning
"on behalf of") since we still need to work out the actual mechanics,
not to mention the what it is we'll be giving out. Once we figure it
out, though, we'll see if we can provide that service.
UPDATE:
We're still figuring out what Lifetime Donation Perks we'll be
offering. We are, however, keeping track of all donations, and they DO
count. So whatever you've donated since January 1, 2008 has been
recorded and will apply to the LDP when we announce them.
If needed
in the future, we will post a mailing address for those wishing to
donate off line.

She's So Young. I'd originally worried over how I was going to keep track of all this time-jumping, and all the complex - to say the least - relationships Celeste was going to have with anyone outside of her crew. I'm working from one primary focus: Celeste. So long as I look at her life experiences as the linear time component, then everything else will be on that time line. Not that there still won't be some tricky stuff coming up. I just hope I won't get our readers and us lost as we move along.
DIFFERENT KIND OF
WALLPAPERS! Starting this month and running through the end of Issue 04, we'll be giving out multiple wallpapers to donors AND people who post in the forum. Each wallpaper is going to be a nice image of a crew member, along with a short character bio. The pages will eventually end up on the new site's CAST PAGE, but the images there will be smaller and lower rez. So consider donating and/or posting during Issue 4! Donors receive all wallpapers for the month, while anyone who posts in the forum will receive the month's first character image. (Donors also receive any bonus images Lily may decide to create in a month.) There will be two to four images each month. A snippet of the first one will be going up once we start that character's story on September 14th.
